Frost Heave Stone in Golden Norwegian Summer

by Amina Andrews

Rich amber light from the setting sun washes over a rugged Norwegian landscape during the brief arctic summer. A large, weathered stone sits tilted upward, lifted by a frost heave that fractured the dark soil beneath it. The rock surface shows deep gray striations and patches of lichen, against the loose, reddish-brown earth piled around its base. Low-hanging dust particles glow in the slanted beams of light, suspended just above the uneven ground. Sparse, hardy grasses rest on the soil nearby, bent slightly by the terrain's history. The stone casts a long, sharp shadow that stretches across the disturbed earth, ending where a small pebble rests against the rock's lower edge.
