Flooded Underpass Street in Shinyanga in beneath a flickering underpass light in Shinyanga

Flooded Underpass Street in Shinyanga

by Sean Noel

Soft afternoon light falls through the shadowed concrete tunnel beneath the underpass in Shinyanga, illuminating ankle-deep rainwater pooling on the asphalt. Debris floats on the surface, caught in the current generated by wind funneling through the structure. Dry season leaves and bits of trash drift along the curb, pushed by the breeze against the damp pavement. The flickering overhead light casts intermittent shadows on the rough concrete walls, highlighting the texture of the wet ground. A discarded plastic bottle bobs near the edge, resting against a accumulation of wet leaves. The water reflects the dull gray of the sky above, while the concrete floor shows signs of wear and scattered grit.
