Flashlight Beam Through Fog in PEI Forest in in Prince Edward Island

Flashlight Beam Through Fog in PEI Forest

by Joanna Kennedy

Amber sunset light wraps the horizon behind a dense stand of red spruce and mixed hardwoods in Prince Edward Island. A focused beam from a handheld flashlight cuts sharply through the lingering gray fog, illuminating suspended water droplets that drift after a passing storm. The beam creates a bright, triangular column of visibility against the darkening undergrowth. Early autumn leaves in muted russet and yellow cling to low branches, their wet surfaces reflecting the fading daylight. The ground is a carpet of damp moss and fallen pine needles. At the edge of the illuminated path, a single fern frond curls downward, its tip glistening with a drop of condensation.
