Fiji Castle Ruins Hilltop Storm Clearing Light in in Fiji

Fiji Castle Ruins Hilltop Storm Clearing Light

by Grayson Sullivan

Bright midmorning tropical light floods the hilltop where crumbling stone walls stand against a clearing sky. The ruins, constructed of weathered volcanic rock, show deep fissures where green vines and broad tropical leaves have taken root. Puddles of rainwater reflect the pale blue sky in the hollows between broken blocks. The low angle view makes the remaining archways tower over the observer. Fresh moss rests on the damp northern faces of the stones, beside the dry, sun-bleached southern surfaces. One jagged piece of masonry sits precariously on the edge of a collapsed tower, its rough texture highlighted by sharp shadows falling across the ground from the retreating storm clouds.
