Diver Hauls Stone Furniture on Lava Rock Dawn
Salt spray coats the rough, black surface of volcanic rock as a research diver maneuvers a heavy quadrat frame. The diver wears dark, waterlogged gear, their gloved hands gripping the metal bars. Beside the frame, a wooden armchair sits partially embedded in the lava, its transformation into stone arrested mid-process. The wood grain of the chair's backrest bleeds seamlessly into the jagged mineral texture of the rock beneath it. First light from the rising sun casts long, sharp shadows across the uneven terrain, highlighting the contrast between the smooth, petrified curves of the furniture and the chaotic, sharp edges of the surrounding stone. The salt wind seems to freeze the water droplets on the diver's suit, freezing them in place against the dark, porous ground. One droplet rests on the edge of the chair's armrest, reflecting the pale morning sky.
