Derelict Firing Range Through Scrub at Dawn

Low sun strikes the horizon haze, painting the clear sky in pale orange and soft violet. Through a natural frame of thorn scrub and blowing sand, the ruins of a ceremonial court in Nepal stand silent. Blown sand coats the concrete firing range, filling cracks and obscuring the original purpose of the structure. Early autumn light casts long, sharp shadows across the weathered stone and rusted metal targets. Dry thistles and scrubby branches intrude from the edges, their brown and grey tones blending with the dust. The texture of the sand is fine and powdery, settling heavily on the flat surfaces of the range. One shadow from a thorn branch falls across a cracked concrete slab, marking the slow reclamation of the site.
