Dam Warning Chain on Wet Steps at Aba

by Kristina Glover

Thick metal links of a warning chain stretch taut across wet concrete steps leading toward a spillway. The steps glisten under the last honeyed light of evening, reflecting the low-hanging gray clouds above. Cool season air has left the stone slick with moisture, darkening its surface where the chain rests. Heavy iron links catch the fading sun, glowing with a warm orange hue that contrasts against the cool gray of the damp concrete. Low clouds hover just above the spillway edge, pressing down on the industrial structure. The chain forms a diagonal line that guides the view from the foreground steps up toward the dark water beyond. one drop of water rests on the bottom link, trembling on the edge of the metal.
