Dam Warning Chain Across Wet Steps at Dawn Angola in beside a hydroelectric intake in Angola

Dam Warning Chain Across Wet Steps at Dawn Angola

by Evan Acosta

Cold silver dawn light floods the concrete spillway steps in Angola, turning the wet stone into a slick, reflective surface. A heavy red and white warning chain stretches tautly across the descending tiers, creating a stark diagonal barrier against the gray infrastructure. Rain has left deep puddles in the step treads, mirroring the pale sky above. The dry season air hangs clear, and the metal links of the chain glisten with fresh moisture. From this high vantage point, the repetitive geometry of the concrete stairs runs down toward the dark intake opening below. at the edge is one drop of water clinging to the lowest link, trembling on the edge of the chain.
