Dallol Acid Pool Model on Museum Plinth
by Lindsey Lowe
Vibrant yellow and sulfur-orange mineral deposits form a miniature hydrothermal landscape resting on a matte black museum plinth. The acid pools mimic the Dallol field in Ethiopia, their surfaces reflecting the soft north-window light that floods the indoor space. Late afternoon sun casts long, muted shadows across the polished floor, highlighting the rough, crystalline texture of the artificial rock. Muted reflections of the colorful terrain stretch along the dark surface below, showing depth without breaking the physical rules of the room. The composition remains minimalist, isolating the vivid, chaotic colors of the simulated geothermal vents against the neutral backdrop of the gallery wall. A sharp edge of orange pigment catches the light where the model meets the black base.
