Amber Light on Dallol Hydrothermal Display

by Alejandro Avery

Rich amber sunset light floods a painted display ledge, illuminating a miniature model of the Dallol hydrothermal field. Vibrant yellow and orange mineral deposits rise in jagged formations beside pools of acidic turquoise water. The dry season air leaves surfaces stark and dust-free, while muted reflections of the colorful terrain stretch across the glossy floor below. Fine white salt crusts texture the edges of the artificial pools, catching the warm glow. A small scale marker rests near the base, at the base of the geological mimicry in a gallery setting. The light fades into deep shadow at the frame's edge.
