Dala Permafrost Pingo Mound Early Morning Wet Season

by Arnold Novak

Soft, overcast light washes the landscape in a pale, diffused gray, revealing a solitary pingo mound rising from the wet season earth near Dala, Yangon. The ground glistens with recent rainfall, reflecting the heavy, dramatic clouds that stack low on the horizon. Moss and sparse grasses rest on the rounded slopes of the mound, their green hues muted by the wet air. The soil appears dense and compacted, holding the shape of the geologic feature against the flat surroundings. Shadows remain soft and undefined, blending the base of the mound into the damp terrain. A small rivulet of water trickles down the left flank, carving a faint, dark line into the light brown earth before disappearing into the grass.
