Pingos on Permafrost Foothills UK in from a ridge above layered foothills in United Kingdom

Pingos on Permafrost Foothills UK

by Willie Rodriguez

Bright tropical light floods the layered foothills of the United Kingdom, illuminating a solitary pingo mound rising from the permafrost. The dry season leaves the grasses short and golden-brown against the pale, textured earth of the mound. A light drizzle creates a fine, shimmering veil over the ridge, softening the distant layers of hills that recede into the haze. The ground appears damp and compact, reflecting the sky in subtle, muted tones. Darker patches of soil mark the base of the mound, against the lighter, wind-swept slopes. at the edge is a thin ribbon of water running down the slope, catching the harsh light before vanishing into the dry earth.
