Flat noon light floods a vast industrial hall near Coptic Cairo, illuminating towering stacks of white cotton bales that reach the dark wooden ceiling beams. The bales, wrapped in coarse jute, create a rhythmic wall of texture against the weathered brick walls. Rain streaks the high windows, blurring the bright exterior into a gray wash that contrasts with the dry, dusty interior. A Dutch angle tilt distorts the vertical lines, making the towering piles appear to lean precariously inward. The floor is scattered with loose fibers and small debris, showing the mechanical severity of the space. One shadow falls across the nearest bale, highlighting the rough weave of its wrapping.
