Cotton Bales Stack High in Desert Packing Hall in inside a packing hall with stainless conveyors in the Gobi Desert

Cotton Bales Stack High in Desert Packing Hall

by Mario Hodge

Rows of white cotton bales rise in rigid columns, reaching the ceiling of a vast industrial packing hall. Stainless steel conveyors stretch across the concrete floor, reflecting the harsh late afternoon sun that floods through high windows. Low-hanging clouds outside cast flat, diffused shadows against the steel surfaces, showing the cold gray tones of the machinery. The symmetry of the stacked bales creates a rhythmic pattern of texture and volume, dominating the space with clear utilitarian order. Dust motes hang suspended in the light beams above the metal tracks. The concrete walls show signs of wear near the base, at the base of the monumental structure in the arid Gobi Desert environment.
