Thick, suspended cotton lint fills the air under the flat noon glare filtering through high skylights. Rows of heavy industrial looms stretch into the distance within the turbine hall near Chongqing. The machinery, painted in faded factory greens and greys, stands rigid against the haze. Dust motes hang motionless in the bright, diffuse beams that cut through the charged material grit. Bare metal surfaces reflect the harsh white light, while loose fibers accumulate on the frames and floor. The winter season is marked by the stark, cold clarity of the light despite the heavy particulate cloud. One beam of light illuminates a cluster of floating threads resting on a steel gear edge.
