Golden light spills across the misty water of a harbor mouth near Bamako, turning the horizon into a glowing band. A lone fisherman sits inside a round coracle, his form reduced to a dark silhouette against the bright sky. The paddle dips into the churning rapids, creating white foam that contrasts with the smooth, fog-draped surface. Cool season air hangs low, softening the distant shoreline into a gray wash. The curved hull of the boat cuts through the water, guided by the rhythmic motion of the paddle. Ripples fan out from the vessel, leading toward the shimmering light on the water's edge. A thin line of white spray marks the exact point where the paddle breaks the surface.
