Sea mist softens the horizon behind a wooden work surface on a floating market boat in Mumbai. A fishmonger in a faded shirt works with a small knife, exposing the silver belly of a mackerel against the dark, wet wood. Water droplets rest on the scales and the man's hands, catching the diffused midday light. Behind the primary action, blurred shapes of other boats and market goods create a busy backdrop. The cool season air hangs heavy in the haze, turning distant vessels into soft gray silhouettes. A small pile of gutted fish rests near the cutting edge, their internal organs distinct against the metallic skin. The wet surface reflects the overcast sky in muted tones. one drop of water falls from the knife tip onto the wood.
