Copper Fog Drifting Through Sydney Cemetery in near Sydney

Copper Fog Drifting Through Sydney Cemetery

by Rosemary Rodgers

Copper-toned light spills across a Sydney cemetery where early spring fog clings low to the ground. Weathered headstones rise from damp earth in a diagonal arrangement that pulls toward the misty background. The air hangs thick and heavy, softening the sharp edges of granite and sandstone markers. A warm, fire-like glow washes over the wet surfaces, turning the pale stone into deep amber and rust hues. Moss patches rest on the lower stones, glowing green against the orange light. The mist swirls around the necks of the monuments, showing quiet intimacy. One shadow stretches long across the grass, ending abruptly at the base of a weathered cross.
