Weeping Willow Over Water in Terraced New York Garden
by Jane Aguilar
Late autumn light falls through the bare, drooping branches of a weeping willow that arches low over a calm water channel. Terraced garden plots rise in stepped layers behind the tree, their soil dark and rich from the recent rain. Patches of lingering green moss rest on the stone edges, while fallen brown leaves float on the water's surface. A brief sun shower creates a shimmering veil of mist, catching the bright daylight and turning the air into a soft, translucent haze. The stone retaining walls show signs of weathering, with patches of lichen adding texture to the gray surfaces. Raindrops ripple outward from where they strike the water, creating concentric circles that distort the reflection of the weeping branches above. The scene rests on the quiet dignity of the stone terraces and the suspended motion of the falling rain.
