Candlemaker Dipping Wicks in Wax Vats Sahiwal

by Nicolas Osborne

Warm amber light from a string of bulbs spills over a painted wooden ledge where a candlemaker works. Three shallow vats hold pools of molten wax, their surfaces rippling slightly as thin cotton wicks are lowered and lifted. The early evening shadows stretch long along the plain walls, softening the edges of the workspace. Frost likely coats the window glass outside, hinted by the heavy wool sleeves of the worker's shirt. The wax drips in slow, thick strands back into the liquid, creating small, glistening beads on the metal rim. A final drop rests on the end of a wick before falling silently into the vat.
