Soap Maker Pours Lye in Dhaka Winter Shed

Dim blue twilight falls through a small window, illuminating a soap maker working in a wooden shed within Shankhari Bazaar. The artisan holds a metal pitcher, pouring a pale, viscous lye mixture into rectangular wooden molds arranged on a rough table. Early winter air condenses slightly near the open window frame, visible as a faint haze against the dark exterior. Interior oil lamps cast a warm, flickering glow on the curved neck of the pitcher and the grain of the seasoned wood. The liquid ripples gently as it fills the recesses of the molds, creating a smooth, glossy surface. In the immediate foreground, out-of-focus wooden slats blur into soft brown shapes, framing the precise, deliberate motion of the pour against the deepening blue of the evening outside.
