Surreal Candle Factory Night Pour in at a rail yard near Makhachkala

Surreal Candle Factory Night Pour

by Benjamin Buckner

Low-angle view of a vast industrial hall where hundreds of candle molds sit on concrete floors under a deep autumn night. Thick vapor hangs heavy in the air, clinging to damp walls and pooling around metal trays. One crack in the rough masonry wall releases a continuous waterfall of molten wax that cascades downward like liquid gold, defying gravity and plumbing logic. The water flows over the wax, mixing with the steam rising from the cooling candles. Tungsten light from high windows casts long, orange shadows across the wet floor. Rows of cylindrical molds stretch into the darkness, waiting to be filled by the impossible stream. at the edge is a single droplet of wax hanging from the edge of a mold, catching the light.
