Silhouetted Canal Lock Gates in Evening Haze
by Hailey Boyle
Golden evening light floods the canal chamber, casting the massive wooden gates into stark, dark silhouettes against the bright horizon. The gates stand in perfect symmetrical alignment, their heavy timber frames blocking the view of the water beyond. A soft sea haze blurs the distant shoreline, creating a pale, diffused backdrop that emphasizes the rigid geometry of the infrastructure. The wood grain remains invisible in the shadow, appearing as solid, matte blocks. Above, the sky transitions from deep amber to a cool, pale grey where the haze meets the waterline. The water surface inside the lock is still, reflecting the faint glow of the sky while the gates remain opaque and imposing. A thin, dark shadow line runs along the bottom of the left gate where it meets the stone floor.
