Aerial River Delta Braided Channels Cabimas

by Constance Harrison

Bright midmorning light floods the vast expanse where braided river channels twist and split across the flat delta floor. The water appears dark and slick under a thin layer of light drizzle, creating a network of shimmering veins that contrast sharply with the muted earth tones of the exposed banks. From directly above, the geometry of the landscape emerges as a complex topographic map, with sediment deposits forming pale, winding ridges between the flowing water. The turn of the season leaves the surrounding vegetation sparse and low, showing the raw, sculpted nature of the riverbed. Tiny ripples disturb the surface of the channels, reflecting the overcast sky in a soft, diffuse glow that highlights the texture of the wet mud.
