Aerial Tea Terraces Above Braided River Bogura

by Russell Strickland

Directly overhead, emerald rows of tea bushes form geometric bands that stretch across the landscape. Below, a complex network of braided river channels weaves through the valley floor, their muddy waters reflecting the low orange sun. Pockets of ground fog pool in the depressions between the terraces, softening the transition from the cultivated green to the wet earth. The light casts long, sharp shadows from the ridges, showing the depth of the carving. Layers of vegetation recede into the distance, creating a rhythmic pattern of human agriculture against the chaotic flow of the river. The final edge of a tea row meets the mist in a crisp, dark line.
