Border Collie Herding Sheep at Venezuelan Tidal Inlet in beside a tidal inlet in Venezuela

Border Collie Herding Sheep at Venezuelan Tidal Inlet

by Brooks Vang

Low morning light cuts through a thick haze along the horizon, illuminating a border collie crouched in wet grass beside a Venezuelan tidal inlet. Sea spray hangs suspended in the air, catching the golden glow and softening the edges of the scene. The dog’s coat, a mix of stark black and white, appears damp and matted against the earth. Its ears are pinned forward, eyes locked on a small flock of sheep huddled near the water's edge. The ground is muddy and scattered with salt-encrusted reeds, showing the turn of seasons where vegetation is sparse and brittle. The sheep press close together, their wool thick and yellowed, reacting to the animal's still, coiled posture. One wave breaks silently in the background, sending a fine mist over the shoreline.
