Bright yellow light falls through scattered leaves, painting shifting patches of illumination across the dry, wind-scoured ridge. A black-and-white border collie stands in a low crouch, muscles taut against the earth, eyes locked on a small flock of sheep huddled nearby. Ground fog pools thick in the hollows between rocky outcrops, resting low against the valley floor. The sheep's wool appears coarse and matted from the dry season, lying beside the sleek, alert coat of the dog. Behind them, the valley fades into a soft blur of gray mist, while the ridge rises sharply under the harsh midday sun. The dog's ears are pinned forward, signaling immediate readiness to move. One tuft of dry grass rests on the dog's paw.
