Shearing Board with Wool Curls and Tagged Sheep

Mud stains the wooden planks of a shearing board, where piles of curly white wool rest beside two tagged sheep standing in deep shadow. A sharp rim light traces the wet edges of their fleeces and the muddy paddock fence running along the background. The dry season leaves the ground hard and cracked, yet recent rain coats the wood in a glossy sheen. Humid air hangs heavy, visible only as a faint haze around the distant fence line. The sheep remain still, their ears tagged with blue plastic markers that catch the faint edge of light. One curl of wool lies on the wet floorboards near the sheep's hooves, its texture sharp against the dark grain of the timber.
