Bolivian Ibex at Frosted Bog Edge
by Harry Downs
Golden coastal glare cuts across a wetland landscape where an ibex stands near the edge of a reed bed. The animal's thick, grayish-brown coat catches the harsh late afternoon light, against the muted greens of the surrounding vegetation. Frost rests on the tips of the reeds and the muddy ground, signaling the turn of seasons. Humid air hangs visibly above the water, softening the distant horizon while the foreground remains sharp and textured. The ibex stands still, its hooves pressing into the soft, dark earth. Behind the animal, the reeds sway slightly in the breeze, their pale stalks reflecting the bright sky. One droplet of water slides down a frost-covered blade of grass, marking the fragile boundary between the wet bog and the dry land.
