Boatbuilder Working at Gwangju Canal at Dawn

Soft gray morning light floods a rustic riverside shed where a boatbuilder stands mid-task. White dust coats the rolled sleeves of a faded blue work shirt, contrasting sharply against the deep, wet brown of the unfinished wooden hull. Outside, the canal reflects the clearing storm clouds, its surface still rippling from recent rain. Moisture scatters through the mist clinging to the timber. Tools rest on a rough plank bench nearby, their metal surfaces gleaming with a thin film of water. The builder's posture is focused, hands gripping a chisel against the grain. A drop of water falls from the eaves, striking the puddle at the threshold.
