Copper-toned light floods the high-ceilinged ceremonial hall near Brighton and Hove, illuminating dust motes suspended in humid air. A boat builder stands focused, planing the curved wooden hull of a vessel resting on supports. Shavings curl away from the blade, catching the low sun that traces long, sharp shadows across the polished stone floor. The wood grain glows warmly against the cooler gray tones of the room. Behind the worker, tall arched windows frame the twilight sky, while tools hang neatly on the walls.
