Boat Builder Steaming Ribs in San Juan Temple

Steam rises in thick, white plumes from a curved wooden hull resting in the center of a stone temple courtyard in Ocean Park, San Juan. A boat builder stands in silhouette against the glowing city lights that begin to puncture the humid monsoon evening. Rain-slicked cobblestones reflect the warm amber glow of distant lamps, while the air appears heavy and still after a recent downpour. The subject holds a long tool to bend steaming ribs into place, their form sharp and dark against the soft haze. Symmetrical stone pillars frame the workspace on both sides, creating a balanced architectural corridor. Water droplets rest on the rough grain of the wood, and the steam swirls gently before dissipating into the darkening sky.
