Boatbuilder at Dawn in Mbuji-Mayi Workshop

Pale silver dawn light falls through gaps in the corrugated tin roof of a rustic workshop in Mbuji-Mayi. A boatbuilder stands low to the ground, his sleeves dusted with fine white particles from the morning's labor. Rain has recently passed, leaving the air heavy and the floor slightly damp with recent moisture. The worker leans forward, eyes fixed on a precise seam in a wooden hull resting on wooden supports. Droplets rest on the rough timber grain, catching the soft morning glow. The tin roof reflects the cool gray sky above, while the boatbuilder's focused posture anchors the space. One shadow stretches long across the wet floorboards, ending abruptly at the edge of the wooden hull.
