Painter Whitewashing Harbor Wall at Dawn
by Brayden Boyd
Thick, pale mist rests on the wet harbor edge in Mufulira as the first sunrise rays slice through the gray fog. A painter stands on a weathered wooden scaffold, applying fresh white paint to a corrugated metal wall that curves along the water. Rain-slicked planks of the dock reflect the soft, cool light, while droplets bead on the corrugated iron. The worker wears a faded blue shirt and dark trousers, sleeves rolled up to reveal forearms moving rhythmically with a wide brush. Behind the figure, the calm water of the harbor meets the low, hazy sky, creating a seamless horizon. White paint drips slowly down the textured metal surface, against the rusted orange patches of the unpainted sections. A small wooden crate sits on the scaffold, holding a bucket of milky liquid paint.
