Amber candlelight spills across the concrete floor of a Mbuji-Mayi workshop, illuminating wet patches that mirror the flickering flames. A sandal maker sits at a wooden workbench, guiding a curved knife through thick strips of raw leather. The foreground dissolves into soft bokeh, framing the artisan's hands as they press the blade against the hide. Unfinished leather strips hang from hooks along the rough walls beside the workspace. The monsoon season leaves the floor damp, creating muted reflections that stretch toward the back of the room. Dust particles float in the warm glow above the cutting surface.
