Deep shadow swallows the foreground where a jagged sea ice shelf meets the dark, churning open water of a Canadian shoreline. The upper rim of the ice catches a thin band of pale, diffuse light from the heavy overcast sky, glowing with an intense electric blue that contrasts against the gray mist. The ice surface appears rough and fractured, showing years of compression and wave action along the water line. Above, the sky is a uniform sheet of charcoal clouds, hinting at the midnight sun just below the horizon. The water laps quietly against the base, creating a sharp, white foam line that traces the irregular edge of the frozen shelf.
