Twilight Pressure Ridges Arctic Sea Ice Aerial View

by Stephanie Lara

Pale blue and grey ice sheets stretch endlessly under a low-hanging cloud layer, their surfaces fractured by jagged pressure ridges rising in sharp, uneven lines. The texture of the frozen water shifts from smooth, wind-swept plains to chaotic, towering blocks where the ice has collided. Distant town glow on the horizon casts a faint orange haze against the deepening twilight sky, against the cool tones of the ice below. Low clouds hover just above the ridges, softening the edges of the frozen landscape. The composition follows the rule of thirds, placing the densest ridges in the lower right quadrant. One shadow falls across a jagged ice block, defining its height against the flat expanse.
