Blue Hour Sea Ice Shelf Edge with Falling Snow in along a wave-cut shoreline in Northwest Territories

Blue Hour Sea Ice Shelf Edge with Falling Snow

by Leila Flynn

Steel-blue ambient light washes over a jagged sea ice shelf edge where thick blue ice meets dark open water. The shelf drops sharply into the void, revealing translucent layers of frozen seawater beneath a surface dusted with fresh snow. Gentle flakes drift down through the air, settling on the uneven ridges and carving smooth paths along the ice. The water below remains liquid and dark, against the solid, crystalline structure above. Snow accumulates in the crevices, softening the harsh angles of the shelf. The horizon blurs into the twilight sky, where the last remnants of the midnight sun cast a faint, cool glow. One flake rests on a sharp ice shard at the foreground edge.
