Bioluminescent Plankton in Fiji Shore Waves

by Grayson Salas

Pale blue-green trails of bioluminescent plankton ignite the breaking surf against a dark Fiji shoreline. The water churns with microscopic light where waves crash onto wet sand, creating intricate patterns of glowing foam. Above, a heavy ceiling of low-hanging wet season clouds obscures most of the sky, yet faint starlight falls through gaps to illuminate the scene. The water surface reflects these distant points of light, mixing with the organic glow of the plankton. A dark, jagged rock formation frames the left side of the view, creating a natural opening that focuses attention on the luminous tide. The wet sand in the foreground mirrors the glowing water, extending the blue light onto the beach. One ripple near the rock edge holds a concentrated cluster of bright particles.
