Bright late afternoon sunlight floods the dusty game trail near Castilla, illuminating the alert posture of a bat-eared fox. The animal stands with ears swiveled forward, showing the sharp, angular shape of its large pinnae against the dry, golden grasses of the season. Humid air hangs heavy in the wake of recent rain, leaving the earth dark and compacted beneath its paws while the surrounding scrub remains parched and brittle. The fox's coarse fur shows a mix of sandy grays and tawny oranges, textured by the fine dust of the path.
