Aerial Tea Terraces Bolivia Monsoon Afternoon
by Marion Kline
Hard coastal glare illuminates the stepped green geometry of tea terraces cascading down a high Bolivian slope. Thin clouds drift low over the landscape, allowing patches of intense light to strike the wet leaves and muddy paths. Steady rain turns the soil into dark, saturated ribbons between the vibrant emerald rows. The view from directly above reveals a precise cartographic pattern where the terraces align perfectly against the rolling terrain. Water glistens on every surface, reflecting the harsh sky and creating sharp, high-contrast lines along the edges of the fields. The green of the crops deepens under the monsoon moisture, while the surrounding rooftops appear as a blurred mosaic of gray and brown below the steep incline. One shadow falls across the lower corner of a terrace, defining its depth against the wet earth.
