Woman Washing Clothes in River Fog

Flat noon light reflects off the canal water in Jalalabad, illuminating a woman scrubbing clothes with soap. The scene is split by an impossible horizon where thick fog fills the lower third with a knife-sharp edge, while the upper two-thirds remain clear despite heavy overcast skies. The woman stands waist-deep in the water, her movements creating ripples that disturb the dense white mist clinging to the canal bed. Bright daylight hits the wet fabric and her skin, against the opaque fog rising from the water's surface. The sharp boundary between the clear air and the thick vapor creates a surreal division in the space. One bar of soap rests on a floating rock near her hand, its white texture matching the fog below.
