Woman Carrying Water from Well in Bnei Brak Dawn
by Kelly Wu
Pale silver dawn light washes over a narrow street in Bnei Brak, where fine dust hangs low above the cracked pavement. From behind, a woman in a dark coat and head covering stands beside a stone well, her posture steady as she balances a heavy metal bucket. The bucket rests on her hip, its rim reflecting the muted morning glow. Wet patches stain the ground near the well's opening, against the dry, dusty air. Behind her, the facades of local buildings rise in soft focus, their windows dark and unlit. A low wall of rough concrete runs along the street edge, separating the walkway from a patch of overgrown weeds. The woman's shadow stretches long across the wet stones, ending abruptly at a puddle that mirrors the pale sky. The texture of her coat appears thick and woolen against the damp air.
