Low tungsten light falls through high windows into a prayer hall near Xiamen, illuminating a glass-blowing demonstration during the still hours before dawn. The heavy overcast sky outside casts a muted gray glow that sits beside the warm orange fire from the furnace. A glassblower manipulates a glowing rod, the molten glass shifting from bright yellow to deep red. Wooden benches line the stone floor, while winter coats hang on hooks against the walls, their heavy fabrics resting near the cool stone surfaces.
