Glassblower Shapes Molten Vase in Cumaná Loft

Flat noon light bounces off pale warehouse walls, filling the Cumaná loft with a diffuse, cool glow that softens the harsh midday sun. Deep quiet shadows pool along the base of the concrete walls, against the intense orange heat radiating from the glory hole. A glassblower stands at the furnace, rotating a blowpipe that holds a glowing vase of molten glass. The liquid fire inside the vessel pulses against the stillness of the cool season air. Smokeless heat rises steadily from the opening, hovering above the rough floor where the artisan works. The reflection of the orange glow travels across the smooth metal surface of the blowpipe held in the worker's hands.
