Neon signs cast a pink and blue glow onto the wet pavement outside a metro entrance in Xian. Heavy overcast skies swallow the sky, leaving the street in deep shadow while a sharp rim light outlines the edge of the glass. A diner counter sits behind the foggy window, its warm interior light fighting the cold twilight. Condensation blurs the view, turning the chairs and stools into soft, indistinct shapes. Early spring air hangs low, visible as a thin mist clinging to the glass surface. The wet concrete reflects the neon streaks, creating a fractured mirror image beneath the counter. One raindrop slides down the glass, distorting the view of the empty stool.
