Neon Diner Counter View Through Foggy Window in under an elevated train line in Pioneer Square, Seattle

Neon Diner Counter View Through Foggy Window

by Rex McMillan

Bright midmorning light cuts through a heavy, rain-slicked window to reveal a diner counter beneath an elevated train structure in Pioneer Square. The glass blurs the scene with a soft, gray haze, softening the harsh red glow of the neon sign that hangs above the service bar. Water droplets rest on the exterior pane, distorting the view of the chrome stools and the worn red vinyl upholstery inside. Outside, the wet asphalt reflects the muted sky, while steel beams of the train line loom overhead, framing the entrance. The contrast between the warm interior glow and the cool, dry mountain air outside creates a sharp boundary along the glass edge. One streak of rain runs vertically down the lower right corner of the window.
