Tugboat Pushing Garbage Barge on Jhansi Causeway
by Rebekah Bush
Fluorescent white light spills from the tugboat cabin, cutting through the soft gray haze of a snowfall over the dark river. The vessel pushes a wide, low barge loaded with mounds of refuse along a concrete causeway that stretches into the distance. Snowflakes drift steadily, catching the faint glow of distant city lights on the horizon. The water churns slightly where the hulls meet, creating a frothy white trail against the black surface. The barge appears heavy and slow, its metal sides reflecting the dim ambient light. The causeway walls are lined with simple concrete barriers, separating the industrial movement from the open sky above. The scene remains still except for the falling snow and the steady progress of the boat. One red navigation light blinks rhythmically on the tugboat's rear corner.
