Tombolo Island Ridge Addis Ababa Reflection in from a ridge above layered foothills near Bole, Addis Ababa

Tombolo Island Ridge Addis Ababa Reflection

by Angela Good

A narrow strip of dark, wet earth links a rocky island to the mainland under a heavy, grey sky. Puddles along the tombolo surface hold sharp, inverted images of the layered foothills rising in the distance. The ground appears saturated and glistening, with muted greens and browns from cool season vegetation resting on the ridge beside the water. Soft, diffused light eliminates sharp shadows, creating gentle transitions between the damp soil and the pale horizon. The wind has disturbed the water's edge slightly, breaking the perfect mirror. Reflections of the hills sit directly beneath the actual landforms, creating a symmetrical alignment across the wet surface.
