Stacked Enamel Bowls in Ben Guerir Terminal

by Nia Salazar

Warm honeyed light from the evening sun pools across the floor of a restored train terminal in Ben Guerir, illuminating a tight stack of vintage enamel bowls. The bowls feature chipped blue rims and glossy white centers, their surfaces marked by the fine scratches of daily use. Behind the stack, heavy wooden beams and weathered brick walls stand in deep shadow, against the bright reflections dancing on the wet, tiled floor. Monsoon moisture has left the ground slick, mirroring the golden sky outside. The arrangement rests on a rough concrete ledge, creating a still, meditative composition where the smooth curves of the metal meet the rugged textures of the historic architecture. One reflection of a window frame stretches across the wet tiles near the base of the stack.
